Paracord - Safety cord 3 mm x 15 meters

A para-rope is a safety item that you should consider taking with you on an over sea flight. Indeed, it will allow the members of the plane to stay together, tied to each other after a landing without spending energy to stay grouped in the swell. For a modest cost it replaces a much more expensive and heavy lanyard. In an airplane, it can have many other applications.

Paracord - Safety cord 3 mm x 15 meters

Description

This paracorde is present on the site because it is part of the elements of safety and survival that you must consider taking with you on a maritime flight. Indeed it will allow you to stay together, the life jacket straps attached to each other after a landing without spending energy to stay grouped in the swell.

CAUTION: AFTER LANDING, NEVER ATTACH YOURSELF TO THE AIRCRAFT'S BODY EVEN IF YOU FEEL IT IS FLOATING, WHETHER IN CALM SEAS OR IN HEAVY SWELLS AND WEATHER. IF YOU ATTACH YOURSELF TO AN OBJECT WITH PARACORD, BE SURE THAT IT FLOATS, OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE DRAGGED TO THE BOTTOM BEFORE YOU CAN UNDO THE ATTACHMENT, EVEN WITH A LIFE JACKET.

The possibilities of use of this solid paracord are very numerous if it is present in a plane:

Ideal and resistant to tie down a plane or to make a bundle of luggage and tie it down
To tow an aircraft by putting it in multi-strand, getting stuck in the grass or being bogged down after a rain can happen.
Camping or drying clothes soaked by the rain after landing.
For many outdoor activities
It supports up to a maximum of 125 kg

What is paracord?

Paracord' means 'parachute cord'. It is a very strong cord with a core made of a number of nylon threads, surrounded by a nylon sheath. Initially it was used as a parachute cord by the US military (which is where it got its name), but it now has many different applications due to its strength.

For example, it is widely used for outdoor activities or survival purposes where a very strong rope is required, and it has even been used by astronauts to repair the Hubble Space Telescope ( source Tom Nugent,).

Today, paracord is mainly used to make survival bracelets or sometimes as a decorative accessory. The survival bracelet is then in a way a fashion accessory.

Hikers and other outdoor sports enthusiasts often wear these survival bracelets or emergency bracelets, composed of a single length of paracord braided or worked in macramé. The goal is to be able to unravel the bracelet quickly in case of emergency and to have a resistant cord of about two meters in one piece to meet specific needs (shelter attachment, tourniquet compression point, lace, belt, necessary repairs, collar...). This concept has been popularized by the survivalist movement, and among others through Bear Grylls.

The back of the PARACORDE packaging provides a graphic explanation to make a survival bracelet or a lanyard with the 15m available.

Many other uses are made of it, whether artistic (spider web type installations, etc...), practical (lashing, securing loads, substitute for "sewing thread" with the internal strands for makeshift repairs...) or economic.

In aviation, it is an accessory that should always be present in an aircraft (lashing, towing, unstuffing, makeshift repairs, etc.).

The MIL-C-5040H standard
The US defense has set quality requirements for the paracord they purchased, the technical specifications the rope had to meet were defined in the MIL-C-5040H standard. So if you want to buy a real paracord, you need to choose a rope that meets this standard. The Aerodiscount supplier does not provide this information. So you have to consider that the standard is not fulfilled, so you will have to avoid uses where resistance is imperative (climbing, usual towing...).

However, after a water landing for example, this paracord allows you to stay together and grouped. Because of its flexibility, you can create a loop with a knot around the ventral strap of the vest for example.

Technical characteristics and uses

The paracord is available in different colors according to the arrivals, it has a thickness of 3 mm and is 15 meters long. This allows to attach 4 people and floating objects (waterproof bags, airplane cushions, life raft, ...)
The ends of the paracord are melted (and can be crimped) to prevent them from fraying.

Paracord can be found in different thicknesses

Which of these thicknesses is the best choice for you depends on the use you have in mind. A 3mm cord is easier to knot than a thicker 5mm cord for example, but the latter will offer more strength for the same amount of construction. Indeed, the strength depends on the diameter and the number of internal strands of their arrangement and sheathing.

We propose a 3mm cord because it is the best compromise between volume, weight and resistance. (125kg) uses.

Why this choice in the security section because nylon does not rot or mildew, it has become an all-weather material, its aging is very good if kept in normal conditions (ventilation, dry and not exposed to heat or sun)

You can improve this simple cord by preparing and attaching pins or hooks with regular spacing, one at each end on the paracord.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REQUESTED

This PARA-CORD rope is not suitable for climbing despite its resistance given for 125kg

ONCE IT IS USED AND TIRED AND PUT INTO SEVERE TENSION (e.g. FALL OF WEIGHT ATTACHMENT or TRACING), YOU MUST DISCARD THE ROPE AND CHANGE IT FOR SAFETY.
